Kate Middleton's wedding dress details

London - Kate Middleton has helped design her own wedding dress.

While the pretty brunette - who is set to marry Prince William on April 29 - has remained tight-lipped about her gown for the big day, pals have revealed she came up with the design herself before asking Sophie Cranston, founder of label Libelula, to put her ideas into practice.

A source told the MailOnline website: "All we have been told is that the dressmaker is fairly unknown and from a relatively small design house. But make no mistake, whoever's name emerges on the day, this is very much Catherine's dress."

The dress - which will not be unveiled until the big day as Kate is keen to surprise William - is reportedly ivory satin and lace, with a pearl button detail and a 10ft train.

Pieces of jewellery

Sophie is said to have not been announced as the designer in order to protect her and her family "from media scrutiny for as long as possible, and to allow her the freedom to create the wedding gown of Catherine's dreams without additional pressures and distractions".

Kate is said to be planning to wear diamond-and-pearl earrings on the day and will also borrow some pieces of jewellery including a tiara from William's grandmother Queen Elizabeth.

Sophie, 34, won the Designer of Year award at London's Graduate Fashion Week in 1999 and has previously worked for Alexander McQueen and Alice Temperley.
