Interview: Kourtney Kardashian

There's just no stopping the Kardashian clan when it comes to reality TV.

First the family rocketed to fame with Keeping Up with the Kardashians, and then sisters Kourtney and Khloe decided to head for sun and fun in Miami as single ladies.

Shortly after, viewers welcomed new members into the family when Kourtney became a mother to Mason and Los Angeles Laker Lamar Odom married Khloe after a whirlwind romance.

Now Kourtney and Kim have their very own show in a new city: Kourtney and Kim Take New York.

This new series sees Kourtney and Kim set their sights on opening a boutique in New York City and they plan to take advantage of all the glitz, glam and flirty fun the city has to offer.

In this show we'll see Kourtney and her man Scott Disick work on their relationship and Kim enjoying the single life after years of serial monogamy.

A dream come true

Kourtney says she and Kim have "always wanted to open a store in New York".

"It's been a life long dream, and the timing just seemed to work. Kim was single and I think she needed to get away from LA for a while, and Scott's family are in New York so it was great for Mason to spend some quality time with his other grandparents and bond with them," she explains.

She adds that Khloe would have loved to have come to New York, but had other commitments. "She's married and Lamar was on tour so she couldn't make the commitment that opening a new store requires. Kim was single and needed a new adventure."

In the premiere episode, Kourtney and Kim arrive in New York City ready to get to work on the construction and opening of their third DASH store – the most glamorous one to date. However, the sisters are a bit overwhelmed when they learn that things aren't going according to plan.

"Opening the store in New York was a lot harder than we anticipated.  It was a rocky ride at times, but we got there in the end and all the hard work and effort we put in was definitely worth it," says Kourtney.

Meanwhile, Kourtney is thrilled to have Scott join her in his home state, and contemplates having him move into her hotel suite, much to Kim’s disappointment.

"Scott and I are in a really happy place right now. He's been working on his issues and I'm so proud of him because he's come such a long way."

Kim’s former bodyguard, Shengo, makes an appearance after she gets an email from him. The idea of exploring their mutual attraction makes her excited to see him again. But Kourtney isn't so sure Kim will be able to keep herself from turning a casual situation into a full-blown romance.

As for living in New York, Kourtney says it was great to move there. "I think New York was really good for us [Kourtney and Scott] and you see our relationship grow on the show."

Family ties

So what was it like being away from the rest of the family? "I did miss my family, but they came to visit and it was so nice to have Scott's mom and dad there, and to spend some quality time with them," shares Kourtney.

As for motherhood, Kourtney says her son has changed her a lot. "Mason is my number one priority, so everything I do, every decision I make, I always think of him first.  I guess he's made me less selfish!"

Later in the season, as the ladies prepare to return to Las Vegas for Kim's 30th birthday bash, Scott wonders if he can maintain his sobriety in the same city where he ruined Kim's last birthday.

Kim has other things on her mind - with her 30th birthday looming, she creates a "30 by 30" bucket list to cheer herself up over the fact she will be entering the fourth decade of her life.

"I think Kim surprised herself at how much she liked New York.  It's so different from LA, but we had so much fun. You definitely see me trying to mix things up a bit in Kim's love life as well," Kourtney admits.

What's the biggest highlight of the season people can look forward to? "All of it! There's so much going on, whether it's the store, socialising, Scott and my relationship, Kim going on dates, or Khloe popping by to say hi.  There's always a drama with us, as well as lots of laughter."

As for rumours that Kourtney and Scott are get married this season, Kourtney responds: "There's no wedding that I'm aware of. Scott and I are really happy right now and we're just taking our relationship one step at a time."

Kourtney and Kim Take New York premieres on Sunday March 27 at 23:00 on E! (DStv Channel 124).
