Interview: SA's Got Talent Winner Darren Rajbal

Q: How did you celebrate after the show last night?
A: After last evening, I was very relaxed and I took some time to rest. The reason I tried to take it calm is because if I decided to have a ball and have a party I would have felt very bad today. That is the main reason I decided to take it easy and to be role model as well, you know... for the young people.

Q: Do you think people voted for you because of your hearing impairment?
A: Quite honestly I don't know. I haven't heard any rumours about this but I personally believe that people chose me due to the skill I have, and not due to my deafness. It just so happens that I am deaf. But I do believe they chose me for my skills.

Q: You've expressed a desire to open a school to teach deaf children how to dance.  What would you call your school?
A: Sjoe, if I had to think of a name, it would be something in the lines of "Dancing Anywhere Everywhere" and I'd also include the word "skills".

Q: You also mentioned on the show that one of your passions is film. Do you watch movies and if so, what is your favourite of all time?
A: Yes, yes, I do love watching movies. I think my favourite movie... uhm... let me just think about this quickly... Matrix would be one of my favourites, also Step Up 2, Spiderman, but in general I like all types of movies. Those three would fall under my favourites though.

Q: How old were you when you started dancing?
A: 14

Q: And what inspired you to start dancing?
A: The reason I started dancing is that firstly I had a great interest in dancing and secondly I thought that I could benefit a lot from dancing in my future. That is why I decided to focus on dancing.

Q: Do you have any plans to continue performing? And what type of events would you like to perform at in the future?
A: Well, If I sit and think about what I would like to do in the future, I'd definitely like to travel, I'd like to gain more experience when it comes to music, I would like to gain more information with regards to music, what's hot or not in the industry, and fourthly to see if I could get into acting.

Q: Would you consider doing a collaboration with your runner-up in the competition, George Avakian?
A: Oh yes, absolutely! That would definitely be possible.

Q: What's the first thing you're going to buy with the prize money?
A: (laughs) I have absolutely no idea!
Q: Well you're not partying with it...
A: Definitely not!
