Jason Priestley Interview

Jason Priestley made his mark as the quintessential good guy Brandon Walsh in Beverly Hills 90210.

Since then he's been working hard at being anything but the good guy. Currently Jason is starring as a morally bankrupt but charming used car salesman in Call Me Fitz, airing on SONY MAX.

We chatted to the actor and director about his bad boy skills, vintage cars and favourite TV series.

C24: You've taken to playing some really hard characters since you played the good guy, Brandon Walsh in Beverly Hills 90210. Why is that?
Jason: As an actor, you always want to play different characters and take on different challenges.  I played such a "good guy" for so long, I was constantly looking for very different characters and different challenges for myself.

C24: Some people think your 'good boy' looks make you unbelievable as a villain or nasty character. What do you say to that?
Jason: I'm not really sure what to say to that... everyone is entitled to their opinion...

C24: In Call Me Fitz you play a used car salesman. What's your favourite vintage car?
Jason: My favorite vintage car was my Austin Healey 3000 MK III BJ8.

C24:  How does work on a TV series differ from work on a movie?
Jason: TV series work is always much faster than work on a feature film.  But I enjoy the pace of TV. I’m not very good at sitting around.

C24: What do you think of the 'remake' show, 90210?
Jason:  I directed an episode of the new 90210 in the first season.  I enjoyed it. It's a good show with a talented cast.  It really has nothing to do with the original show, though.

C24: You also directed several episodes of the original Beverly Hills 90210. Any TV shows airing currently that you're eager to direct an episode of?
Jason: I did... I directed 16 episodes of the original show. I figured I should learn how to direct TV from the king of TV himself, Aaron Spelling. I direct two episodes of Call Me Fitz every season. That keeps me quite busy. As for other shows, I’ve been dying to shoot an episode of Breaking Bad.

C24: Name some of your favourite TV shows at the moment.
Jason: My favorite shows right now are Breaking Bad, Shameless, Californication and Nurse Jackie

Call Me Fitz airs on SONY MAX (DStv channel 126) on Tuesdays at 21:00.
