SA’s Got Talent - Ep 2 Recap: Please, show me the funny!

It's still better than Idols, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement. Firstly, what's with the city-hopping? One city, one week - it's a simple concept. Instead, we visit two or three different cities, see 20 different wardrobe changes and a whole lot of non-events in the talent category.

Secondly, why are we being subjected to the boring, mundane croaks and jokes? Show us the good, the bad and the ugly - and that's it. Randall may not have a sense of humour, but if there's nothing to laugh at, you can’t really blame him.

Once again the judges provided most of the entertainment, and corny, horny Randall is back! From terrible American accents to very obvious sexual innuendos, it’s clear that he’s bored and he’s toying with us. When 37-year-old Lynne Atkinson sang her own composition called "Physical Attention", Randall was as punny as ever.

The lack of talent was taking its toll on the judges as they were handing out 'yes' votes like Lunch Bars at the auditions. Emo band Escaping Larry was touted as the most talented band they’d seen yet. Sorry, is there something wrong with my TV? When did we tune into Kak FM?

Last week Bradley Hartmann stole our hearts and eyes, so this week we got another 11-year-old wunderkid, Kalon Badenhorst. Sure, the hip-hop contemporary dancer was good, but this isn’t So You Think You Can Dance: Junior Year. And he just didn’t have Bradley's spunk…

But the cute kids are still coming up trumps. Little Clio Edwards put Beyonce to shame with her bigger-than-her-body rendition of Etta James' "At Last". Who's got the big ego now, huh?

This week proved that SA's Got Talent is indeed a variety show. From snake dancers, Afrikaans rappers and plenty SuBo wannabes, to comedians and cheerleaders, SA definitely has originality, if not 'talent'.

There's one more week of auditions left and I can only hope they're saving the best laughs for last.  I'm pinning my hopes on the judges to keep the show afloat when there's nothing to laugh at. Thanks, Ian, for showing the tap dancing duo how it's done.

So, now that we were left a little less than impressed this week, will you be tuning in again?
