Your views: Porn on TV

On Monday December 5 we reported that African Satellite Installations (ASI) planned to sell special porn decoders that would show a 24-hour porn channel once connected to a TopTV satellite dish.

This news prompted a response from TopTV, saying they were shocked at the implication of any association with ASI. However, that same day news of TopTV's applications for three porn channels broke.

So whether it's brought to you by ASI or TopTV, it's more than likely that porn channels will make their way to South African satellite TV subscribers in the near future.

These are some of the responses we've received.

Juanita van der Westhuizen thinks you should be able to watch what you want: "It takes all types to make the world. Every person has different needs. Regarding Porn on TV, I agree, everyone should be able to watch what they want.  Because of the need for a special decoder I cannot see that your children 'accessing' the channel will be a problem."

Francois Oosthuizen agrees, saying: "Don't interfere with my right to watch porn" while Terry Smith has a simple solution: Each to his own!  People who don't want to watch for whatever reason – don't buy the decoder."

However, many feel the introduction of porn channels in SA is "disgusting".

Sandy says: "It's disgusting that Top TV is planning to show porn!  This will poison people’s minds, especially our children. The devil is seeping his way into our world. I will spread the news about Top TV and their porn channel and will encourage others to boycott!"

Mrs Middleton feels porn doesn't represent real relationships, saying: "We are subscribers of TopTV & I definitely do no want a porn channel on my subscription.

"I am totally against it and do not think it is a good idea to have this disgusting channel available and I definately will not allow any of my family members to watch this rubbish... It is enough to me one sick!

"Porn is sick and disgusting and definitely no example of what a loving real life relationship is!"

Christopher J Green agrees: "Those who watch such rubbish are sadly lacking something in their lives.  It is sick!"
