Idols in CT: The good, the bad, the funny

The Cape Town leg of Idols Season 8 auditions had many in stitches while Gareth Cliff got a slap on his bum from a big fan.

But what about the singing? While there was definitely promise, let's all be honest, that's not why we watch the audition tapes.

It's for those who've been let down by their friends and families, who've failed to get a real-world assessment of their talent and now they're in front of one of the meanest guys on TV - Randall Abrahams.

This is what caught our eye on the latest episode.

Funny - Anne Carter
Anne has a lot of heart, but not such a good memory. She struggled with the lyrics and got really intense in the chorus of Alanis Morrisette's Ironic.

Bad - JP Kelly
JP has never sung for anyone else before. The choir teacher at school told him he had a high voice, so he decided to give All for One's I Swear a go in front of the Idols judges.

Great - Thabisa Mhlakulwana

Thabisa's rendition of Brenda Fassie's Vulindlela impressed us as much as it did Unathi.
