Miracle of SA liberation comes to small screen

On Sunday 10 February DStv will, for the first time on TV anywhere in the world, premiere the new documentary special Miracle Rising: South Africa.

The documentary, which will have its television debut on HISTORY (DStv channel 186) on Sunday 10 February 2013 at 20:30 and repeated at 22:20, marks the 23rd anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s release from prison, and recounts untold stories of the four years from the release of Madiba in February 1990 to the first democratic elections in South Africa in April 1994.

Miracle Rising: South Africa
will be screened across the globe on HISTORY to 300 million homes in over 150 countries, in more than 37 languages worldwide.

The stirring, emotionally charged documentary produced by Combined Artists and sponsored by global ICT company Dimension Data, reveals to the world the crucial decisions, small conversations, tragic ironies and audacious leaps of faith that combined to make the almost impossible vision of a democratic elections a reality.

Miracle Rising: South Africa introduces the unsung heroes and divulges previously untold stories that quietly shaped the course of our history.

The stories are recounted through the personal interpretations of key local and international figures. Viewers will hear the personal and intimate anecdotes on the subject from various world leaders, politicians, celebrities, and journalists.

Some of the luminaries who bear testimony to South Africa’s miraculous rebirth include Christiane Amanpour, Richard Branson, Oprah Winfrey, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton, Dr Mamphela Ramphele, U2's Bono, Whoopi Goldberg, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu and Charlize Theron.

To ensure the documentary will be seen by all South Africans, Multichoice announced that pay-TV platform DStv will make HISTORY available to all its subscribers, across all bouquets, in a special preview weekend from Friday 8 February at 17:00 to Tuesday 12 February 02:00.

Imtiaz Patel, Group CEO for MultiChoice South Africa, also announced at the glittering Miracle Rising: South Africa premiere held in Johannesburg on Thursday night that the documentary will also be aired on public broadcaster SABC. The date for the SABC broadcast is still to be confirmed.
