The Sing-Off replaces The Voice on SABC3

There's good news and bad news so I'm going to hit you with the bad because I reckon you'll want it first: The new, third season of The Voice won't be airing on SABC3 anytime soon.

It premiered in the US just over a week ago and was scheduled to start here on Wednesday, 3 October but it's been snatched off the schedule because the contract hasn't been finalised.

According to the channel, it'll most likely start sometime next year ie. too late! Things are moving at a lightning pace with the series - the number of seasons has been increased from one to two seasons per year. The show's already put out a call for contestants for season 4 so by the time we see season 3 the new season will probably have started.

Thankfully there's some good news at the end of tunnel because the Wednesday night abyss left by the show will be filled by The Sing-Off - also a musical reality show, but with a difference.

It's a must-see sing-off between a capella groups that leaves one in awe of the incredible things people are able to do with their voices. It doesn't use any musical instruments or recorded music anywhere - not even in the theme music - which fills it with a wow factor.

It's hosted by Jessica Simpson's ex-hubby Nick Lachey and features a panel of three judges: Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men, singer/songwriter Ben Folds and singer and pianist Sara Bareilles.

Bonus news is that Sara Bareilles replaced annoying Nicole Scherzinger for season 3 - which is the season we'll be seeing.

Nicole judged on seasons 1 and 2, which were short - four and five episodes each - and Sara replaced her for season 3, which runs a full season. It premieres at 20:00 on Wednesday, 3 October for 24 episodes.

To give you an idea of how cool it is, here's a clip of one of the group's performing a kick-butt rendition of K'naan's Wavin' Flag:
