2013 SAFTA nominees announced

2013-02-14 08:57
Cape Town - The nominees for the 7th annual South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTA) have been announced.

During an event at Melrose Arch on Wednesday evening, nominees in more than 60 categories were announced. According to TVSA, there were about 354 entries this year, seeing an increase of 120 entries from 2012.

Yet again, eyebrows were raised when notable categories such as Best Comedy and Best Director on a TV Comedy, Best Writing Team of a TV Comedy were left off the official list, following in the footsteps of many controversies that the awards show faced in previous years.

As per tradition, the public will also have a chance to vote for their best TV soapie. SABC2 soap 7de Laan, which was snubbed from the list last year, has been added to the list of nominees for this year's awards ceremony. Details will soon follow on which platforms the public can use to vote.

The ceremony is set to take place over two evenings at Gallagher Estate in Johannesburg on 15 and 16 March.
