5 things to know about the first black bachelorette

Cape Town - Rachel Lindsay is set to make The Bachelor history in the The Bachelorette season 13. 

Rachel is the first black bachelorette in the long running reality series. 

South Africans for the first time will be able to view it four days after it airs in the US. 

Catch the first episode on Saturday, 27 May at 18:00 on Vuzu Amp (DStv 103).

Here are 5 things you need to know about the new bachelorette:

1. Who is Rachel Lindsay?

The 31-year-old Dallas native is a civil defense litigation attorney and comes from a family of lawyers.  

She also loves sport and has a degree in sports management. Rachel has a fear of animals that can fly. 


2. A series of firsts

Apart from being the first black bachelorette she was also the first black woman to receive the first impression rose on The Bachelor season 21 with Nick Viall.

In another first for the franchise The Bachelorette announcement was made while the current season of The Bachelor was still on air and while Rachel was still 'competing' for Nick. 

3. Meet Rachel's 31 suitors

International media have hailed the selection as the most diverse cast ever. Her suitors include: Three in medicine, consultants, a professional wrestler, former pro basketball player and personal trainer and uhm a tickle monster.

4. She already has a ring on it

In another first, yes, Rachel keeps on bringing the firsts. 

During an interview with E! Online she revealed that she is engaged and living her happily ever after.
