Cape Town – After a week of teasing, M-Net finally revealed #thenextbigthing.
M-Net announced their new show at a press conference at The Bay Hotel in Camps Bay on Tuesday with celebrity couples Nico and Christi Pangio, Letshego and Gugu Zulu and Elana and Ian Bredenkamp.
M-Net’s brand new reality show, Power Couple, will put relationships to the ultimate test when couples compete against each other in a series of Fear Factor and Survivor like challenges.
The last remaining couple stand the chance of winning a cash prize of up to R1m.
The show has received high ratings in Israel and Portugual and is currently in production in Brazil.
South Africa is the first English language country to produce the show, making this another first for M-Net.
Speaking at the big reveal at The Bay Hotel Power Couple SA producer Handrie Basson says that it is a feel good show that will have couples feeling enriched after the experience.
"We will be testing how well they know each other when they enter the show and how well they get to know each other during the show. The challenges will be intimate and revealing and will also have entertainment value," said Basson.
Here are 5 things you need to know about the new show.
1. Eight couples will live together in a luxury villa in Camps Bay. The couples will compete against each other in a series of challenges ranging from intimate to high-adrenaline action adventures.
2. The show will consist of 14 episodes in which there will be ‘guy’ or ‘girl’ challenges. This is how the challenge works: Each couple will be given an amount of money at the beginning of a challenge. One partner will compete while the other will bet on the chance of their partner winning. If they win the challenge they win the money they wagered, if not they lose the money.
3. After completing two challenges the couple with the least amount of money is put up for elimination. The next episode will consist of a couple’s challenge and an elimination round. The couple who wins the challenge wins more money. The losing couple and the couple with the least amount of money will be up for elimination. The overall winning couple will be decided through a public vote that will be announced at a live broadcast!
4. The show will be filmed over the course of 5 weeks from mid March to mid April and is expected to air in August.
5. Entrants must be over 21, a South African citizen and in a romantic relationship.
