5 things you need to know about the new MacGyver

Cape Town – ICYMI the much loved TV classic MacGyver is the latest 80s series to get a modern remake. 

Richard Dean Anderson was a TV hero who used his wits, science, swiss army knife and charm to disarm the bad guys. 

The new series finally makes it's big debut on our screens on Friday, 3 February at 20:30 on M-Net (DStv 101).

Here's what you need to know about the new series.

1. Meet the new MacGyver

Lucas Till (Walk the Line, X-Men: Apocalypse) will take on the role of Angus "Mac" McGyver. Till is the son of a chemist and an army colonel which he believes made him perfect for the role. 

2. About the show

The series is a re-imagining of the original show which follows MacGyver who creates a clandestine organisation within the U.S. government, relying on his unconventional problem-solving skills to save lives.

3. Other cast members

Joining Till in the action packed series is CSI alum George Eads who will play Lincoln, the Jack Dalton character, an eccentric government employee.

Other cast members include: Justin Hires, Sandrine Holt, Tristin Mays and Cory Scott Allen.

4. Will there be guns?

During a panel discussion at the Television Critics Association summer tour executive producer Peter Lenkov says that it will not necessarily be a a gun-free show. 

He said, "It will be unrealistic to do this type of show and not have anybody have any type of gun. Macgyver's a guy if he needs a weapon he will build it."
