5 things you quickly need to know about ShowMax

Cape Town – Channel24 on Wednesday took a quick trip up to Jozi to go check out the launch of ShowMax.

Veiled in secrecy and subsequently the target of some tech-savvy journos, most of the news surrounding ShowMax leaked online before the actual launch.

But that didn’t put a damper on the official unveiling of the sexy new video on demand service which is set to be a massive game changer in the local market.

Here are 5 things you quickly have to know about ShowMax:

1)    What even is a ShowMax?

ShowMax is a new video on demand service. It’s TV and movies at your fingertips. You can watch whatever you want, whenever you want online. Seeing that Netflix isn’t (officially or legally) in South Africa yet, ShowMax is Mzansi’s very own and very impressive internet streaming media.

2)    How do I get started?

Visit Showmax.com and sign up. You can sign up using your Facebook profile. It’s just the click of a button. You then have the option to try out the 7 day free trial or to subscribe using a credit card, PayPal or a voucher.

3)    How much does it cost?

R99 a month. That’s it folks. For 99 Bokke you can watch an endless amount of flicks and TV shows. (Obvi internet costs are separate.)

4)    Where can I watch it?

All you need to use ShowMax is an internet connection and a smart device or computer. This includes mobile phones and tablets via iOS and Android apps, laptop and desktop computers using a range of web browsers, and Samsung and LG smart TVs. (Geek talk: While you can use a 2Mbps line, ShowMax recommends an uncapped 4Mbps line or faster for the best viewing experience. 2 hours of streaming requires roughly 1GB of data)

5)    What can I watch on ShowMax?

There’s more than 10 000 hours of content available. That means if you start watching ShowMax right now 24/7 it will keep you busy until November 2016! They’ve got everything your binge-watching heart desires. Some of the most exciting titles include Game of Thrones, Arrow, Girls, Big Bang Theory, Vikings, Entourage, Suits, etc . It also has a huge amount of local content on it!

A quick summary:

Netflix will never be able to offer the local content that ShowMax is offering. With its roots planted firmly in South Africa, and with the backing of media giant Naspers, this video on demand service is a game changer. So set it up. WhatsApp your lover and just ShowMax and chill.
