Cape Town – Transparent, the ground-breaking dramedy which has been lauded for its gripping story lines, on-point acting, creativity, and insights into the challenges of a transgender individual is coming to M-Net Edge (DStv 102).
The show has also been praised for hiring many transgender people to work on the production or and be involved in the writing of the series.
Here are five things you need to know about the show:
1. The story
It tells the story of a quirky family who must deal with the aftermath of a spectacular admission: their patriarch, retired professor Mort Pfefferman, is in fact transgender and has decided to now live openly as a woman named Maura.
2. Award winner
The series has won two Golden Globes, five Emmy Awards and two Critics’ Choice Television Awards. It also made history by becoming the first show by Amazon Studios to win major awards and the first series from a streaming video service to clinch the coveted Golden Globe for Best Series.
3. The cast
Jeffery Tambor best known for his role in Arrested Development plays Maura. Other cast members include Amy Landecker (Revenge),Gaby Hoffman, (Girls), Jay Duplass (Togetherness) and Judith Light (Dallas).
4. When and where
The series premieres on M-Net Edge (DStv 102) on Friday, 23 October at 21:00.
