Cape Town – The greatest sporting event of the year kicks off in three days.

The Rio 2016 Olympics will see the world's greatest athletes compete on the biggest sporting stage.

Big brands are taking full advantage of the event as they roll out adverts to hype the games.

It's an all round feels fest from inspirational, to funny and even a sombre look at the sacrifices athletes make.

Here are 7 of our favourite adverts

1. Visa: Carpool to Rio

Olympians hitch a ride to the games in this feel good advert. Shout out to our very own Wayde Van Niekerk who makes a quick dash.

2. Investec: Burning Ambition

South African swimming sensation Cameron van der Burgh swims amongst flames.

3. Samsung:  The World's Anthem

One word. Goosebumps. Samsung combines all the nations anthems into one song.

4. Gillette: Perfect isn't Pretty

Set to Sia's powerful Unstoppable vocals this advert takes a look into the hard work and sacrifices athletes put in to become the best.

5. Samsung: The Chant

In honour of South Sudan's first Olympics Samsung captures the nation's pride with The Chant and tells the story of 19-year-old Margret Rumat Rumat Hassan's preparation for the games.

6. Gatorade: Never Lose the Love

Every great athlete was a little athlete. The Gatorade advert sees Olympians being motivated by their younger selves.

7. P&G: Thank You Mom

Behind every great athlete there's a mom pushing them, motivating them and protecting them. This advert praises moms for their strength and inspiration.
