Johannesburg - And in completely unscripted drama, popular local television soap 7de Laan seems to have been the victim of a scam.
According to a post by the show’s Facebook page, perpetrators posing as staff members of the production team have been targeting acting hopefuls by exploiting them for money.
“It has been brought to our attention that there is a syndicate conducting fraudulent activities deceiving the public by misrepresenting themselves as being the executive producer or some of the staff members at 7de Laan,” reads the post.
“These fraudulent activities involve fake casting/audition schedules on behalf of 7de Laan and several payments are requested pertaining to such activities.”
The show added that they never request money when auditions are performed.
“Please note that Danie Odendaal Productions (7de Laan) DOES NOT CHARGE FOR AUDITIONS.
“All auditions held by the production company are arranged through the casting director and held at 7de Laan studios. In case of road show auditions, 7de Laan makes a public announcement on various media including social media to invite interested people to apply.”
They warned fans against the scam and asked that they contact 7de Laan if any confirmation on authenticity of messages received is needed.
“As a caring and responsible soapie, 7de Laan deeply sympathises with those who have suffered this scam,” the post, which has attracted more than 180 reactions and several angry comments, reads further.
They added that they’re working close with the police to nab those responsible.
