Cape Town - For the first time ever on South African television, Tony Award nominated actress Leleti Khumalo gives audiences a rare glimpse into her extraordinary life and career.
"Everybody wants to be famous - but they don't want to work hard for that fame", says Leleti on the pitfalls of celebrity.
The show tracks her life from impoverished youth to wife of one of the most powerful men in local entertainment and reveals how she rebuilt her career after her controversial marriage to Sarafina creator Mbongeni Ngema ended.
"Media wasn’t running after me because I was a very private person ... having said that I was living a false life because I would portray that I am living a happy life but I am living a disgusting life. Maybe they thought I was living a happy normal life that’s why they didn’t run after me."
The show is the third in the 4th season of e.tv's documentary series The Close Up, in which local celebrities share their life stories with series writer and directed Nicky Greenwall.
Also still to come in this series; actress and socialite Khanyi Mbau, award winning female DJ Zinhle, model Lerato Moloi, television presenter and host Pearl Modiadie, comedian Trevor Gumbi and choreographer and socialite Somizi Mhlongo.
