A snapshot of a day in the life of an Idols finalist

Cape Town – It’s been a long journey for Idols finalists Bongi Silinda and Vincent Bones. For almost four months they’ve been away from their normal lives and on an exhilarating roller coaster ride.

This week the finalists embarked on a whirlwind tour visiting three cities in three days! First stop Jozi, then Durban and finally the Mother City.

We got to hang out with the finalists on the last leg of their tour in Cape Town.

07:30 I meet the Idols at their first stop at the Heart104.9FM studios in Greenpoint. They’re making their appearance on the morning show with Aiden Thomas.

For people who landed the night before at 22:00 just after their mall appearance in Durban, they are in good spirits. There’s camaraderie between the two and you get the feeling that they are genuinely friends.

The interview lasts for about 10 minutes thereafter they do some shots with the production crew. Shots done and dusted the pair and crew have some downtime before heading off to their next stop.

11:00 I meet up with them at Jan Van Riebeeck Primary School. What is it about schools that no matter how old you are makes you still revert to a little kid mode?! The pair get an enthusiastic welcome from the kids who can hardly contain themselves as they do a fun sing along with the pair.

I can see that the two are overwhelmed by the support and the crowd reaction to them. I get a sense that they are humbled by the whole experience.

Thereafter the two and crew head to Signal Hill to take some scenic shots.

15:00 The last stop of their Cape Town tour is at Canal Walk. There is a sea of white and pink t-shirts. The supporters have come out in full force!

The Idols each perform two songs and when they sing their singles it is amazing to see the crowd sing along.

After the long day they had I am surprised to see how energetic and enthusiastic they are.

The performance is followed by a photo taking session where fans can have their pictures taken.

Some quick interviews follow and by 16:00 they head out to the airport to catch their 18:00 flight back to Jozi. When they land there will hardly be any rest in the days to follow as rehearsals for the grand finale is on the cards.

I breathe a sigh of relief as I head home. What a day!

Check out Vincent and Bongi's shout-outs to their fans.
