Los Angeles - Aaliyah's family was left angry this past weekend after news of a possible biopic about her life broke.
The biopic would chronicle the hitmaker's life and unexpected death in 2001 in a plane crash.
Aaliyah died tragically on 25 August at the age of 22 on her way back to Florida from the Bahamas where she filmed a music video for her song Rock The Boat.
17-year-old Disney star Zendaya Coleman has been chosen to play Aaliyah in the movie, an announcement that sparked outrage on social media.
Aaliyah's family feels that a TV movie is not enough to tell the story of their beloved, and that a big theatrical film would be much more acceptable.
According to TMZ, the family has vowed to block any attempt by the network Lifetime to use any of Aaliyah's music.
In an attempt to halt production on the film the family has hired a lawyer and will do everything they can to make sure the flick never gets released.
Aaliyah's uncle who was also her manager, Barry Hankerson, went on to tell TMZ, the family is upset that no one from the network dared to even contact the family regarding the biopic which is set to start production soon.
