Ab Fab movie could happen soon

London - Jennifer Saunders hopes to get an Absolutely Fabulous film off the ground next year.

The 55-year-old star - who has previously ruled out the possibility of bringing the show to the big screen - insists it would be "easy" to write a movie about the sitcom and admits her co-star Joanna Lumley would love a motion picture to be made.

She said: "Everyone's saying, 'Why don't you write it?', I'm thinking 'Yeah, why don't I write it?'

"It would be quite easy, Joanna Lumley would like it. You know, I might well do it.

"I'll do something, I've got some little pet projects that I keep tinkering away with.

"One of them might be the Ab Fab film, I don't know. As we're going into winter, a nice little summertime film seems rather attractive."

Jennifer plays heavy-drinking PR Edina Eddy Monsoon alongside Joanna's magazine editor alter-ego Patsy Stone, but the comedienne admits she has reservations about the project because the expectations will be so high following the success of the TV series.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4, she added: "Everyone keeps going, 'Oh why don't you do a film? Why don't you do some more?'. And you keep thinking, 'Because the expectation is so high!'

"You think, 'Well we could really mess it up.' And so, why mess up something that is actually still perceived as being quite good?"
