Africa's Next Top Model coming to M-Net

Cape Town – Africa's Next Top Model, an African version of Tyra Banks' America's Next Top Model is coming to South Africa.

The new reality competition spin-off will start filming in Cape Town in August for pay-TV broadcaster M-Net.

Africa's Next Top Model will be aired on M-Net's AfricaMagic channels later this year.

The show will be produced by Gavin Wratten - who is also the man behind SA Idols.


In Africa's Next Top Model, 12 models from across Africa compete for the title with Nigerian supermodel Oluchi Onweagba Orlandi filling in the Tyra Banks role as presenter, producer and mentor to the models.

'African version is long overdue'

CBS Studios International has given the African format rights for the show to Oluchi's New York-based production company LuLu Productions which will work with Wratten's Never Machine Productions in SA.

Tyra said that she is "excited" for Africa's Next Top Model to join the established reality show franchise.

There's no statement yet from M-Net but the show which will primarily shoot in Cape Town and South Africa.

Roxanne Pompa, the vice president of international format sales and production at CBS Studios International said, "Africa's Next Top Model is sure to be an entertaining celebration of the great beauty, fashion and unique stories of aspiring models from across the African continent."

Oluchi shared her excitement over the project: "The African version of the franchise is long overdue and I expect the show to be a smashing success across the continent".

America's Next Top Model has already run for 19 "cycles" and boasts a number of international spin-offs in 35 countries including Top Model series in Australia, China, Brazil, France, Sweden, Canada, Italy and the UK.
