Another Idol bites the dust

Johannesburg - Phakamane "Phaksy" Mngomezulu is out of the running for the Idols title.

The 20-year-old student from KwaZulu Natal didn't secure enough support from the viewers to make it into the Top 8 round.

At Tuesday's elimination show, where guest judge Cofield Mundi performed, Phaksy ended up in the bottom three with Erin Fourie and Lefa Pike.

This was Lefa's second time in the bottom three, despite receiving good reviews from judges and celebrity guests after performing Brenda Fassie's Too Late For Mama.

Phaksy performed Loyiso's I Want You in a bid to convince the judges to use their save vote, but he was unsuccessful. In the previous elimination 24-year-old Nolly Meje dropped out of the Top 10.

While being obviously disappointed, Phaksy plans to carry on performing as well as start composing his own music.

The Top 8 Idols will be mentored and accompanied by Loyiso Bala when they perform in the R&B specatcular at the Mosaïek Teatro in Fairlands, Johannesburg on Friday August 19.

The following week James Blunt is set to be the musical guest on the show.

Idols airs on M-Net (101) and Mzansi Magic (107) on Sundays at 17:30.
