Avengers lead 2016 People's Choice Awards nominations

Los Angeles - Avengers: Age of Ultron, Grey's Anatomy and The Weeknd lead the nominations for the 2016 People's Choice Awards.

The Marvel blockbuster and its stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson picked up a total of seven nods ahead of the upcoming ceremony at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, including Favourite Movie, Favourite Actor and Favourite Actress, while the long-running medical drama scored six nominations, including Favourite TV Show and Favourite Network TV Drama.

The Weeknd leads the pack in the musical categories with five nominations, including Favourite Male Artist and Favourite Album, followed by Blank Space hitmaker Taylor Swift, who is up for four different prizes, including Favourite Female Artist and Favourite Pop Artist.

Ballers star Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson was named in three different categories for his work, including Favourite Action Movie Star, Favourite Cable TV Actor and Favourite Social Media Celebrity.

Ed Sheeran is among the other top contenders, while Madonna will battle it out against Paul McCartney, Prince, Steven Tyler, and Stevie Wonder in a bid to scoop the Favourite Music Icon prize.

Fans can vote for their favourite artists and actors via the People's Choice website, Facebook page, Twitter or mobile app, and the winners will be revealed at the star-studded ceremony on January 6, 2016.
