London – The Daily Mail reports that Bear Grylls' controversial survival show has left viewers feeling "sick" and wanting to "gag".
The Island has been marred with accusations that the show is fake and that the participants are not "ordinary men" but have experience in similar survival challenges.
The latest episode in which two of the contestants were given enemas has unleashed another wave of viewer backlash.
Two contestants who suffered from bowel problems were administered enemas by a doctor who used a washed-up rubber tube and a cut off water bottle to perform the procedure.
Viewers took to Twitter to voice their outrage.
One user Sammyjane wrote: "Cringing so much, this guy just sticks a pipe up on his ass on The Island with Bear Grylls absolutely disgusting."
While another Samxahemed complained: "The Island with Bear Grylls has made me gag and feel sick at the same time."
The network company, Channel4, received a number of complaints about the episode but would not disclose how many.
Media regulator Ofcom has said that it has yet to decide whether to open up a formal complaint about the aired episode and investigate whether it breached the broadcasting code of conduct.
