Betty White to host prank TV show

Los Angeles - Octogenarian actress Betty White will host a new hidden-camera TV show in which older people play jokes on younger men and women, NBC said on Thursday.

White, 89, will lead a group of seven senior citizens who play pranks on others in the programme called Betty White's Off Their Rockers that is based on the popular European television show, Benidorm Bastards.

"People have been telling me that I'm 'off my rocker' for years - now I can prove it," White said in a statement announcing the upcoming show.

12 Episodes

White, a seven-time Emmy winner, co-starred in The Mary Tyler Moore Show in the 1970s and in The Golden Girls, about a group of senior women, during the 1980s and 1990s.

Her flair for comedy has made White as popular as ever in recent years portraying kindly older women who have a mean or mischievous streak. A comedy series in which she currently stars, Hot in Cleveland, has been renewed for a third season.

NBC said it had ordered 12 episodes of Betty White's Off Their Rockers, but did not say when the show would begin airing on the network.
