Johannesburg – Four main actors in soapie Binneland are leaving the show.
Binneland, a kykNET and M-Net soapie, will see vixen Stefanie Malherbe (played by Rolanda Marais) stir trouble for the last time before leaving the show.
Three of the Binneland doctors are also leaving. Drs Conrad Bester (Hykie Berg), Quinton Meyer (Ramey Short) and Tertius Jonker (Reynardt Hugo) will all be hanging up their white coats in the next few days.
Berg has filmed his exit scene, Hugo still has a few scenes to shoot and Short finishes at the end of March.
Extremely passionate
Berg said on Monday that although he'll by no means disappear from the screen or the stage permanently, he will now focus on other important activities in his life.
One of these activities is his role as ambassador for the organisation People Search and Rescue Unit (PSARU). This organisation, founded by several former police officers among others, officially starts with its work on April 1.
PSARU's main mission is to locate people who are missing. The main target is to try and stop human trafficking and to try and help the victims thereof. Berg said he is "extremely passionate" about this new challenge in his life.
Love for acting
"I hope every member of the public will get involved, so the evil of human trafficking, especially with regards to children, can be eradicated. I am going to throw my full weight into it.
"People who want to know more about PSARU, can visit the website www.psaru.co.za."
He is also planning to get involved with leadership development, which includes lectures he'll be giving at churches and businesses.
His love for acting is still going strong though. He will be seen in two films later this year, namely Lien se Langstaan-skoene and Swartberg. Two more film roles are also on the horizon.
