Bold's Ridge to fans: Don't be sad

Cape Town – Ronn Moss has broken his silence since it was announced that the veteran soap opera actor quit The Bold and the Beautiful.

Moss has been playing the role of fashion designer Ridge Forrester on the soapie since its inception on US TV network CBS in 1987.

On Monday the 60-year-old actor posted a statement to his Facebook page, thanking fans for their "support during this time and hopefully beyond" and hinting at what the future held for him.

There has been no official word on the reasons for Moss' departure from the popular TV show but reports suggest that Moss decided to leave over salary issues.

Addressing the rumours Moss wrote: "I can't say anything yet, but soon will explain. Hang in there with me, We have a wonderful new journey ahead of us."

'Try and not be sad'

Moss also offered condolences to his fans: "Try and not be sad, angry, disappointed.. It's been a great run and all good things end eventually. As this door closes, others are opening."

Production company Bell Phillip Television said in a statement: "Ronn has spent an amazing 25 years with B&B. We will always consider him family, and we wish him only the best in all of his future endeavours."

Daytime soap operas are in a steady decline in the US with a number of long-running series such as All My Children, As the World Turns and One Life to Live getting the axe in recent years.

The Bold and the Beautiful was named Most Popular Daytime TV Soap by the Guinness World Records in 2012 and remains wildy popular in Europe, Southeast Asia and southern Africa, despite falling ratings in the US and shrinking production budgets.

Moss is expected to film his final scenes as Ridge Forrester on Tuesday, which are scheduled to air in the US in September.

The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays in South Africa on SABC1 at 18:00 and is approximately 12 months behind the US schedule.
