Cape Town – When we first got wind that Boris Kodjoe was in our city we contacted him immediately to try and get an interview.
While it took some time it was definitely worth the wait when Boris walked into our office.
Looking at his impressive credits, Boris has definitely done it all.
"The fun part about doing this is that I have had the opportunity to do movies, TV and stage. That alone is a privilege. It’s a blessing," says Boris.
He is currently filming a crime series called Cape Town, which is based on the Deon Meyer novel Dead Before Dying. The series also stars South African actor Arnold Vosloo.
Boris told us more about the show and his character. "It’s about a detective called Mat Joubert whose wife was murdered. He and his partner, my character Sanctus Snook are trying to solve the murder. I play a special agent who was brought in to look over his shoulder because we suspect he had something to do with his wife’s murder.
"Playing this character was a challenge. I have to employ a South African accent; my character is from Mitchell’s Plain. I had a dialect coach. It is always fun to do a different accent and different language which I am doing all the time because I’m from Germany."
The series is being shot all over Cape Town and some of the locations they have been working in include Macassar Beach, Woodstock, Constantia and Tokai.
"It’s so beautiful here. It’s one of those places in the world where you have everything: desert, mountain, ocean. I love it here," says Boris.
Filming will wrap up in May and according to Boris the series is being sold all over the world. He is confident that it will definitely make its way to our screens especially because Deon Meyer is the author of the books.
