Channel24 meets the new Tom & Jerry in Los Angeles

2015-02-19 13:29

Los Angeles – Channel24 recently hopped on a plane and travelled to Los Angeles to get the inside scoop on the latest remake of the childhood classic TV series, Tom & Jerry.

The latest version of the popular animated show still stars all of everyone’s favourite characters from the original show, but with a fresh new take.

The hot new show, which airs on Boomerang (DStv, channel 302), explores exciting new slapstick storylines and fantastic new worlds, shining a brightly coloured lens on a never-ending battle that has set the standard for cartoon rivalries.

During our visit to Los Angeles we got to visit the Warner Brothers Animation (WBA) studios in Burbank, Los Angeles.

Not only did we get to watch two of the latest episodes of the show but we also had a chat with WBA’s vice-president of series, Jay Bastian.

According to Bastian the classic cartoon capers will not be limited to Tom and Jerry’s traditional suburban setting. Instead, the title characters’ never-ending game of cat-and-mouse will expand to include exciting new worlds, from a witch’s cabin to a detective agency and even a mad scientist’s lab.

"It’s intimidating to take on a classic that everyone loves and to make sure you do it justice. They are such unique and loved characters and you don’t want to mess that up," Bastian told Channel24.

"The new series is aimed at a new audience who might not be familiar with the characters. But it’s also aimed at the parents of today who grew up watching the cat and mouse duo. It’s a great show to watch with your kids," Bastian added.

The show has expanded its storyline and settings to ensure that the new episodes provide fresh new viewing entertainment.

"We had to make sure we don’t repeat old storylines. With a setup as elementary as a hungry and determined cat chasing a resourceful and mischievous mouse, the possibilities are endless. So we took it to a new level and introduced some exciting new surprises."
