Christina Aguilera cancels SA performance

Cape Town – Pop star Christina Aguilera has left the news channel ANN7 (DStv 405) red in the face after she pulled out from the South African of the Year Awards (SATY) only a month before it’s due to take place.

In an article published on ANN7’s website the organisers of the second SATY Awards are quoted saying; "The Grammy award winner regretfully had to pull out of the 2nd SATY 2015 Awards show due to a change in the scheduling of the top-rated TV show The Voice on which she is one of the judges".

"The schedule change requires her to be in the US on the day of the SATY awards," ANN7 reported.

Christina Aguilera is not currently a judge on the upcoming 9th season of the American version of The Voice as Gwen Stefani made her return to the show. The organisers say they are aware of this but documents from Christina's team says she has obligations relating to the show that is keeping her from travelling to South Africa.

Due to the change in the line-up, the ticket fees of all ticket holders will be refunded.

The awards show, which is taking place on 17 October at TicketPro Dome in Randburg, was initially opened to the public but will now become a private event.

ANN7 said the 2015 SATY’s would be a live TV broadcast on the channel on MultiChoice’s DStv satellite pay-TV platform. No further information on this is currently available.

ANN7 is still broadcasting the I Am South African show at 18:00 with Maps Maponyane.
