Cape Town – MultiChoice will now be making two movies available for free to appease angry subscribers after suffering a severe technical glitch with it's newly launched video-on-demand service DStv BoxOffice on Friday.
Multichoice had to work through the night on Friday to resolve issues that led to the technical failure of its new video-on-demand (VOD) service.
On Saturday viewers reported that DStv BoxOffice was back up and running smoothly.
MultiChoice hasn't yet explained what happened or responded to specific media enquiries about the failure the pay TV operator experienced with the new service and what caused it.
It is now telling subscribers this: ''Thanks for being one of our first BoxOffice users. Your overwhelming interest delayed our system response times, which we've worked through the night to resolve. To show our appreciation for your patience, your NEXT TWO movies are on us! From the DStv BoxOffice Team.''
System delay
Friday night on Facebook MultiChoice told angry subscribers that ''response to BoxOffice has exceeded our expectations and resulted in a system delay. We are working to ensure your rentals will be available as soon as possible. Our engineers have been hard at work to get the systems back up and to ensure that additional resources are assigned to BoxOffice.''
DStv BoxOffice, by pressing the green button on the DStv remote control, is making a selection of 15 movies available to DStv Premium subscribers at R25 a movie. A rented movie can be watched for a period of 48 hours.
As an incentive for subscribers to try the new DStv BoxOffice, MultiChoice has allowed subscribers to watch any movie of their choice out of the available playlist for free. Now, it seems subscribers will be getting a second free movie as well, due to the technical problems they've experienced.
