Cape Town – The next new TV channel launching in South Africa on MultiChoice's DStv pay-TV platform will be kykNET Musiek - a music channel devoted to popular Afrikaans music videos.

kykNET Musiek will start on DStv on Tuesday 13 November on channel 146 as the third spinoff channel from kykNET after the kids channel Koowee (DSTv channel 307) and the youth music video channel MK (DStv channel 324).

kykNET is "very excited" about kykNET Musiek which will start shortly after the new weekday morning breakfast show, Dagbreek on Monday 5 November – the first all-Afrikaans morning show on South African television.

Whereas MK is more focused on the youth music genre – rock and urban – kykNET Musiek is positioned as a broadbased, popular Afrikaans music video channel.

"kykNET Musiek will be the place where you'll be able to see all your Afrikaans music stars – all the Kurt Darrens, all the Juanitas, all the Bobby van Jaarsvelds," Channel24 has been told.

    As if Jukebox isn't more than enough! Do we have enough "stars" to devote an entire channel to?

      Hopefully, we will also hear afrikaans music from all races, and not the same music over and over again

      DSTV = POO

    When will we get a replacement for MTV after it became so "rubbish reality TV" focused? VH1 is adult contemporary and oldies, Channel O and MTVBase, even Trace is hip hop and R&B focused. MK is often Afrikaans hard-rock focused. When will we get a mainstream channel that plays a plethora of today's hit videos, from Pop, to Rock, to R&B, to Alternative, to Dance, to Indie???

      At least TopTV has Kerrang! Magic is also not bad - pity Q (indie music) was closed down.

    Listen all you English Folk, the world doesn't belong to you, there's very little afrikaans channels as it is, so stop being so selfish, and let it be, if you don't like it, don't listen to it, it's like the SABC channels, don't pay your TV Licence and don't watch the channels...........

    Please only in SA. It’s unfair that you do business in our countries and force feed us things we cannot even comprehend. DSTV needs to develop a plan for African countries or move out. The longer you stay the harder you make it for other service providers to come in. I am very sure that Africa can get a much better international pay TV.

      What do you mean? Have you COUNTED the number of channels particularly dedicated to "Africa" and "Africans" in general?
