Cape Town – The 45-year-old soap opera has been renewed for another two years.
Broadcaster NBC announced on Monday that Days of Our Lives will air on US television up until September 2013, the New York Times reports.
The announcement coincides with the soap's 45th season celebration.
Days of Our Lives is the broadcaster's only daytime soap, and if it remains popular, an option for another one-year renewal will be available.
According to the New Your Times, Days of Our Lives executive producer Ken Corday "broke down" when he received the news. Corday's parents were involved in the show's creation at its inception.
Days of Our Lives has an average of one million viewers in South Africa.
The soap, which is two and a half years behind the US broadcast dates, airs from Monday to Friday on SABC 3 at 16:45.
