Dineo Ranaka joins Scandal! - as herself

Johannesburg - YFM DJ and TV presenter Dineo Ranaka is set to make her acting debut on the e.tv soapie Scandal!.

Ranaka, 27, who presents the music show Club 808 on e.tv, will play herself in the popular SA soapie for 16 episodes starting October 11.

Dineo is the sister of award-winning actress Manaka Ranaka, who fans will know from Tshisha and Stokvel fame.

It's not sure at this stage what Dineo's storyline in Scandal! will entail as sources on set say the soapie's production team "are keeping things under wraps".

e.tv publicist Bongi Potelwa confirmed to Channel24 that Dineo will indeed be joining the soapie in October.

"I can confirm amongst all the rumours and speculation that Dineo will be making a guest appearance in Scandal! and she's been hard at work filming her storyline.

"I can't comment too much at this stage, but it's going to be quite a pivotal storyline for Dineo's character and the other characters she comes into contact with."

Keeping mum

Dineo, who previously hosted the SABC1 celebrity gossip show The Real Goboza, has been spotted leaving the Scandal! studios in Highlands North, Johannesburg, but hasn't spoken out in public about her upcoming appearance on the soapie.

According to Potelwa, Dineo started at the soapie on July 20 and the role has reportedly been "challenging" for the actress.

"Dineo's had to play herself as a character – which is not always easy to do."

It is believed that Dineo previously auditioned for a role at Scandal!, but after being turned down, she vowed to impress the soapie's casting team on her second try.

Potelwa has nothing but praise for Dineo.

"Dineo's one of those talented individuals who is very professional and quite polished. She takes her work seriously and it's been a pleasure working with her on set. Dineo knows how to keep things together and viewers will love what she has to offer."

Dineo was recently in the news after feuding with former vuzu.tv presenter Nonhle Thema on Twitter.
