Elvis Blue wins Idols 6

Johannesburg - The music teacher from George has been voted South Africa's newest pop Idol.

Elvis Blue was announced the winner after a 90-minute spectacular finale featuring performances from some of the Idols season 6 guest judges such as HHP, Steve Hofmeyr and others.

Elvis Blue, whose real name is Jan Hoogendyk, went up against 28-year-old Lloyd Cele from Durban for the title. Just under 2.5 million votes were cast in this final week of the competition. Elvis received 64% of the votes.

Elvis Blue wins a recording contract from Universal Music, a new Ford Figo, R500 000 in cash (which he and runner-up Lloyd Cele shared) and numerous other prizes in addition to the title.

Hoogendyk adopted the name Elvis Blue after his 11-year-old friend of the same name passed away.
