Honey Boo Boo has post-traumatic stress disorder

Los Angeles - Honey Boo Boo is suffering from post-traumatic stress following her car accident earlier this month.

The eight-year-old reality TV star is still "dazed and confused" after hitting her head on a window during the incident, which also saw her mother June 'Mama June' Shannon and father Mike 'Sugar Bear' Thompson injured when another vehicle hit the family's car.

Mama June exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "She has what [doctors] call post-concussion symptoms, which is like the headaches, the body aches, being dazed and confused. Then she also has post-traumatic stress syndrome from being in a traumatic event. So we are just taking it one day at a time."

Honey Boo Boo - real name Alana Thompson - was forced to cancel a number of appearances following the incident and has been engaging in a series of physical and mental exercises to bring her back to full health, but her mother claims the process has been challenging.

The Here Comes Honey Boo Boo star explained: "We are just trying to get her back to the most normal routine we can, which is going to help her healing process. What is frustrating is that we don't know what the outcome will be, or when she is going to be back to normal."

June - whose daughter Jessica 'Chubbs' Shannon also suffered injuries - says the experience has been emotional, but she is determined to remain positive despite the circumstances.

She added: "It is [scary]. I don't wish this on my worst enemy. I am very devoted to my children. I've learnt from this experience to have a lot of patience and to laugh a lot, because if you sit there and think about it too long you are just going to be crying all the time."

The new series of 'ere Comes Honey Boo Boo begins on Wednesday, 5 February at 20:00 on TLC Entertainment. (172)
