Cape Town - Port Nolloth native Simphiwe Gwegwe has missed out on his Idols dream after getting voted out of Idols SA season 8.
Simphiwe, 23, received the least number of votes and ended up in the bottom 2 along with 30-year-old marketing assistant and radio presenter, Monde.
But unfortunately for Simphiwe, there were not enough votes in his favour this week. The judges also decided yet again not to use their save, leaving Simphiwe out of the running.
That leaves the remaining Idols making up the Top 4 - Melissa, Tshidi, Monde and Khaya - to battle it out in next week's Homebrew theme, as they perform proudly South African songs.
Simphiwe's version of the Bob Marley classic No Woman No Cry in the first round drew criticism from the judges. "You have a tendency to over-sing," Randall cautioned.
Unathi was more positive but added, "I wish you could take the lyrical message of the song more seriously."
For his second performance he sang Bonnie Raitt's powerful ballad I Can’t Make You Love Me, as chosen by Gauteng radio station Highveld 94.7. "Simphiwe, I actually believed you!" gushed Gareth. "And I think you had the audience eating out of your hand," he added.
But Randall was having none of it: "Once again I thought it was over sung, histrionic and heartless," he told Simphiwe.
Watch the Top 4 perform on M-Net and Mzansi Magic this Sunday, 16 September at 17:30.
