Jon Cryer: Lorre saved Charlie Sheen

Los Angeles - Jon Cryer has thanked Chuck Lorre for firing Charlie Sheen from Two and a Half Men.

Charlie was let go from the sitcom after his unpredictable life off set – which included drinking, drugs and partying with porn stars - started to cause concern and Jon is grateful to the show's creators, Chuck Lorre and Lee Aronsohn, for making the decision because he believes it saved his friend.

Speaking as he received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday, Jon said: "I do have to say a real word of thanks to my co-star of eight years, Charlie Sheen, who gave me so much as a performer and who I enjoyed working with so much.

"But perhaps, more importantly, I feel the need to thank Chuck Lorre and Lee Aronsohn, who, when they saw somebody who was clearly in distress, took every possible means to try to help their friend, and who, you know, when it came time to make the ultimate decision, which was someplace that nobody wanted to go, did something that in my belief saved my friend."

Charlie initially launched a series of personal rants against Lorre after being fired from the show, but has now admitted he was wrong and said he hopes his replacement, Ashton Kutcher, does well on the show.

He said: "My defining moment was when I got fired. Yeah, the day I got fired from my big television show. I thought I could come back.

"It was bad and I own my part in that, and I just want to make everything right.

"I should have been a little more responsible about the condition I was showing up in."

Charlie also made another apology on Sunday as he presented an award at the Emmys, and met with Ashton to again wish him well.
