Kelly Clarkson joins new talent show

Los Angeles - Kelly Clarkson has joined the judging panel of new TV talent show Duets.

The Grammy winner - who found fame on the first season of American Idol - will join forces with music legend Lionel Richie, as well as country singer Jennifer Nettles and soul star Robin Thicke on the upcoming ABC series, which is set to debut this year.

After scouring the US for undiscovered talent, Duets will see the celebrity mentors paired with aspiring vocalists for a live performance in front of a studio audience each week, with the eventual winner bagging a recording contract with Hollywood Records.

Kelly said in a statement: "The simple fact that I get to go out and find two people that I believe in, sing with them every week, and help them accomplish their dream is an amazing thing that I can't wait to be a part of."

The 29-year-old singer - who will appear as a guest mentor on The Voice in season 2 - has previously admitted she has been given a "hard time" because she found success on a TV talent show.

She recently explained: "People have given me such a hard time. I came from a singing show, so I like singing shows, obviously. What was the big shocker there?"
