Cape Town – Comedy legend Leon Schuster has been chosen as the second South African personality to get a Comedy Central Roast.

The Comedy Central Roast of Leon Schuster will be recorded in front of a live audience at the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City, on 3 April 2014.

Following in the singed footsteps of 2012 Roastee Steve Hofmeyr, Schuster is setting himself up to be hauled over the coals by a panel of peers, friends, enemies, critics, comics and entertainment personalities, as they line up to subject him to a humorous barrage of praise, criticism, abuse, jokes and downright lies.

The news of the roast was announced on Thursday morning on the Gareth Cliff show on 5fm and confirmed on Twitter by Leon Schuster who tweeted the following:

"We have always had him in our sights since the idea of an African Roast was first floated, and we are delighted to have worn him down at last: this is South Africa's chance to get some revenge on the nation’s most infamous practical joker!" says Evert van der Veer, Channel Director of Comedy Central Africa.

The controversial first African Roast, The Comedy Central Roast of Steve Hofmeyr, was characterised by the most vulgar language ever to grace a local TV show as roastmaster Trevor Noah led the charge, and introduced a panel that included fellow comedians John Vlismas, Casper de Vries and David Kau, socialite Kuli Roberts, soapie actors Robert Whitehead and Shaleen Surtie-Richards, model Minki van der Westhuizen, and radio DJ Anele Mdoda.

The show saw firebrand Afrikaans singer, actor and activist Hofmeyr subjected to a series of barbs about his political views, musical career, many adulterous affairs and children.
