M-Net dropping millions on new game show

Cape Town - M-Net has announced that a South African version of the hit game show Million Dollar Money Drop will be hitting our screens in the near future.

After it was recently announced to the rest of Africa that a Nigerian version of the game show format Million Dollar Money Drop will be aired on Africa Magic Entertainment, M-Net has decided to produce a local version of the game show entitled Million Rand Money Drop.

Endemol South Africa has signed on as the producer for both Million Dollar Money Drop Nigeria as well as Million Rand Money Drop for South Africa.

Auditions to be held later in October

Channel director for general entertainment Theo Erasmus said the American version of this nail-biting game show, which was screened on M-Net earlier this year, struck a chord with their audiences. "We're excited to introduce the local version of this unique, high-stakes game show to our M-Net schedule."

The show will see contestants starting off with R1m in notes which they then have to place on any of three different answers to trivia questions. After this is done, trap doors below the "answers" open under the incorrect options and contestants lose the money they perhaps have placed on those answers.

Endemol South Africa will be hosting auditions in Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth from the end of the month and in November for contestants who want to enter Million Rand Money Drop.

The audition dates for Million Rand Money Drop will take place in Johannesburg on 25 and 26 October, in Durban on 1 and 2 November, in Cape Town on 8 and 9 November and will end off in Port Elizabeth on 16 and 17 November.
