MTV to move channel numbers on DStv

Cape Town - As from 1 October MTV will move from it current home on channel 321 to channel 130 on DStv.

This change comes as a result of MultiChoice's expanded capacity since the successful launch of the new Intelsat 20 (IS-20) satellite at the start of August, giving the pay-TV platform a massive boost in broadband capacity, which makes more TV channels possible.

The content carried by the channel now focuses on entertainment, ranging from reality to comedy, drama and observational documentaries.

As a result, DStv decided to move MTV from the music segment of the channel line-up to the general entertainment segment as this is now the best "fit" for the channel.

Top shows to return from October

Among the programming highlights to look out for on MTV from October 2012 are the returns of sitcom Awkward as well as the last season of Jersey Shore.

Award shows and music specials will remain a staple of the new-look MTV withThe 2012 Video Music Awards being broadcast on 7 September and World Stage and Pop up Video making regular appearances on the schedule.

Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President and Managing Director for Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa, said that the move provides DStv with the opportunity to cater more succesfully to their customers.

"Over the years, MTV has evolved into a youth entertainment brand that delivers hit programming loved by 16-34-year-old audiences. We are excited that the channel will now be in a more relevant slot, enabling viewers easier access to its great entertainment content," he said.
