Los Angeles – MacGyver was one of the coolest TV shows in the 80s. He was a superhero, his power was science and his weapons duct tape and a Swiss army knife.
After years of being off the circuit, MacGyver might be making a comeback. And this time around Mac will be a female.
Lee David Zlotoff, the creator of the original series, has teamed up with the National Academy of Engineering and top Hollywood TV producers to launch a crowdsourcing competition to create the new Mac.
The only condition is that the character must be female.
Five entrants will win $5000 each and be paired up with a top Hollywood producer to create a script for a pilot.
The idea is to inspire a generation of women to see themselves as engineers.
With strong female characters such as Veronica Mars and Nikita already blazing the way, this new Mac will fit right in.
This made us a bit nostalgic so we had to add that awesome theme song!
