Johannesburg - ANC Youth League president Julius Malema has spoken out about fans being unhappy with the outcome of the recent Big Brother Amplified finale.
The finale saw Nigerian Karen Igho and Zimbabwian Wendall Parsons each walk away with the $200 000 prize money, while South African Clayton "Luclay" Misoya, a crowd favourite, walked away empty-handed.
After the results were announced live on DStv, Malema took to his Twitter page to address the disappointment many South African fans voiced due to the results.
"#slacktivism has its uses. eg. Luclay issue had dominated social media and may force DSTV to re-audit votes," he tweeted.
Malema's tweet came moments after fans of the popular reality TV show took to social media platforms to voice their concerns about the outcome – even suggesting that the show was rigged and that South Africa's Misoya was robbed.
After the live finale took place live outside the Big Brother house in Highlands North in Johannesburg, members of the live audience booed Parsons and were visibility upset by the outcome.
Police force necessary
Channel24 witnessed how members of the audience took to the stage to rant and protest, forcing police to calm the crowd down. Misoya's supporters also chanted his name in support of him and were visibly upset that he did not win.
Later, Malema responded with another tweet after all the remarks on Twitter: "#BBA Nigeria alone has X3 population of SA + other country voted could have easily robbed Luclay win. Calm and rational heads needed."
Speaking to Channel24, Misoya said he was "in complete shock" about the situation and how South Africa was reacting to the outcome.
"I am humbled by the support my country has given me and I am even more humbled that President Julius Malema has shown his support to me. I respect him greatly and I value his support. He is someone I look up to as well."
As for his response to Parsons winning Big Brother Amplified, Misoya said: "I am proud as to how I played the game and I commend Wendall on winning. It wasn't up to the housemates to decide who won – Africa voted for their winners. Clearly Wendall played a good-enough game for people to like him and vote for him and both he and Karen are deserving winners. I won't take anything away from them."
Misoya said he has "already been approached with offers" and is looking forward to using his Big Brother Africa fame to "help other and pursue his dreams".
