Cape Town - It's the end of the road for Khaya on MasterChef SA.
The bubbly 27-year-old mom-to-be from Johannesburg served up a bland version of Chef Andrew Atkinson's medal-winning dish in the pressure test.
In a previous episode, Khaya announced to some of her teammates while in a market in Stonetown, Zanzibar that she is pregnant.
The first half of the episode took place in the fishing village of Paternoster in the Western Cape, where the top six contestants were split into two teams.
The focus was on sustainable fish and the task was to prepare a seafood platter for Suzi Holtzhausen, owner of Die Gaaitjie Saltwater restaurant. She had also invited some locals to enjoy the fair.
Blues vs Reds
When it came down to the vote, the blue team - consisting of Manisha, Sue-Ann and Lungile - won the challenge by a mile. It seemed as if undercooked crayfish was the reason the red team - consisting of Sarel, Deena and Khaya - lost out.
The bottom three then faced off in a pressure test which required them to recreate a dish Chef Andrew said took four years to perfect. The dish won a silver medal at the 1995 Culinary Olympic Games.
The silver lid was lifted to reveal a brioche encrusted Springbok loin with an asparagus tower filled with a mushroom and leek ragu, a duo-coloured pasta parcel filled with a ricotta and spinach filling, served with a rooibos tea infused béarnaise sauce and a peppadew salsa.
Sarel won the challenge even though all three suffered with split bearnaise sauces. Khaya's lack of seasoning and thick pasta ended up costing her her apron.
MasterChef SA airs on M-Net and M-Net HD on Tuesdays at 19:30.
