Michelle Obama to do SA talk show

Cape Town – Michelle Obama, the first lady of the United States, will take part in MTV Base Meets... in a special episode of the youth TV show which will be recorded on Saturday in Johannesburg.

Michelle, who will be visiting South Africa together with her husband, American president Barack Obama, will talk to teenagers from across South Africa at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre.

The event will be streamed live on Saturday on www.mtvbase.com, www.whitehouse.gov and the White House Google+ pages.

MTV Base Meets Michelle Obama will be shown across sub-Saharan Africa on MTV Base (DStv 322) on Friday 19 July at 17:00 (repeated on Saturday 20 July at 13:30). The Grammy-winner John Legend will also join the discussion in which teenagers get the chance to put questions to rolemodels.

"Michelle Obama's involvement in the MTV Base Meets programme reinforces her committment as an advocate for young people," says Alex Okosi, the senior vice president and managing director for Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa, in a statement.

"We are excited to work with her in leveraging our platform to engage with young people on the continent. Her extraordinary career and personal journey will be an insightful and inspiring contribution to the programme," says Okosi.
