MultiChoice drops DStv Explora price to R1999 for a month

Cape Town – MultiChoice is dropping the price of the DStv Explora decoder to R1999 from Monday – but for a month only in anticipation of the 2014 FIFA World Cup soccer.

The South African satellite pay-TV platform’s top-of-the-line decoder will retail at R1999 from Monday to help stimulate DStv Explora sales and uptake for the 2014 FIFA World Cup soccer tournament.

The DStv Explora will cost R1999 until 15 June as part of a marketing campaign of MultiChoice for the 2014 FIFA World Cup which kicks off on 12 June.

MultiChoice and SuperSport will push additional programming and extra content to the DStv Explora during the 2014 FIFA World Cup for sports and soccer lovers once the tournament starts since the decoder has a much larger hard drive, enabling more on-demand content for DStv subscribers.

The new recommended retail price of R1999 (a DStv Explora usually retails for R2499) is effective in South Africa at Game, Dion Wired, Makro, House & Home, Pick & Pay, Hi-Fi Corporation, OK Furniture, Bradlows and Morkels.

Last month MultiChoice Nigeria announced that it will be slashing DStv Explora decoder prices by almost half (43%) for the 2014 FIFA World Cup where the DStv Explora was just introduced as a new DStv decoder model.
