New SA home for Bold and the Beautiful

Cape Town - South African fans of US soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful will have to get used to a new reality from Monday, 2 September when the show will make its debut on SABC 3, after airing on SABC 1 for 23 years.

The show will, however, maintain its daily 18:00 timeslot from Monday-Friday.

The Bold and the Beautiful (or B&B to longtime fans) is the world's most-watched daily drama with an estimated global audience of 26.2 million viewers, and has won 31 Daytime Emmy Awards. The show won the coveted Outstanding Drama Series at the Daytime Emmys for three consecutive years, from 2009 to 2011.

B&B revolves around the lives and many loves of the Forrester family and their fashion dynasty, Forrester Fashions. Other families who feature prominently include the Logans and Spencers.

Hilarious B&B recaps on Youtube

South African actress Terry Pheto landed a recurring role of a heart surgeon, Dr Malaika Maponya, on the series.

The show lost one one of its original core cast members last year when Susan Flannery, who played matriarch Stephanie Forrester, left the show.

South Africa is approximately 11 months behind the US episodes.

Confirming the move Risuna Mayimele, SABC 3 Marketing Manager, said, "We are thrilled to add such a popular and award-winning show to our exciting line up of quality and entertaining programmes. We are on a concerted drive to make SABC 3 the home of quality soapies and this latest addition is an enhancement of our offering to viewers."

SABC 1's online TV guide indicates that the timeslot vacated by B&B will be filled with local series such as The Link, Vuka Kleva and Vaya Mzansi.

The Bold and the Beautiful now airs Monday-Friday on SABC 3 at 18:00.

The show is regularly recapped in hilariously adlibbed Youtube videos by a man named Brad Sanders who stars as Clarence in The Clarence Updates. They're a must watch!
