Los Angeles - US television company Fox has said that is has made no changes to the content or promotion of The Following, its upcoming drama about a serial killer, since the Connecticut school shooting and other real-life acts of violence.
The drama featuring Kevin Bacon chasing a grisly killer who recruits murderous disciples debuts 21 January in the US.
The Kevin Williamson-created series opens by showing the bloody aftermath of knifed prison guards, and a woman later commits suicide by gouging her eye and piercing her skull with an ice pick.
Fox entertainment chief Kevin Reilly said on Tuesday, that Fox takes very seriously what it puts on the air. But he said that linking the issue of violence in society to broadcast television trivialises the issue.
The Following is set to premiere in South Africa on M-Net on 30 January at 21:30.
